Sierra Leone is home to some of the most breathtaking and unspoiled beaches in the World. From remote coves with powdery white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters, to livelier beaches just minutes away from the centre of Freetown, there’s truly a beach for everyone in Sierra Leone
Lumley Beach
This is the most visited beach in Freetown. It is because of its easy access and the number of hotels and restaurants that are situated along the beach road. This beach is mostly jam packed, especially in the weekends, but mostly on holidays. Here, no one sleeps. Nightclubs, casinos, Cultural parades, beach football and many more activities take place. Lumley continues to attract thousands of visitors.
River #2 Beach
Just 20 minutes walk away from Tokeh beach, this offbeat paradise is the perfect alternative to the upmarket resorts mentioned above. River N.2 Beach is run by a community association, offering accommodation, meals and even a handicraft market in this peaceful retreat away from the bustling city. The beach is located near the estuary of River #2, dividing it into two parts, with locals ferrying visitors between the two sides. On the south, there’s a lagoon created by the river estuary, perfect for the most inexperienced swimmers. Confident swimmers can brave the Atlantic waves, always remembering to exercise caution.
Token Beach
Sierra Leone has no shortage of spectacular beaches, and Tokeh is definitely one of the best – a crescent of soft powdery sand, fringed by palm beaches and hills covered with lush rainforest. This beach was one of the most popular in Sierra Leone before the Civil War, as it used to house Afrikana Tokeh Village, a 400-room resort that was a favorite of celebrities back in the day.The beach is located near the estuary of River #2, dividing it into two parts, with locals ferrying visitors between the two sides. Mahera Beach
This beach is over 50 miles long and lies a stone throw from the international airport in Lungi. It is easily accessible from anywhere in the locality. During a normal day you can bike down or just talk to any point of the beach. With fishing activities taking place in some parts of the beach, it is not uncommon to experience a dramatic fishing scene. It is a safe place to be at. The beach also serves as the shortest transfer post for visitors heading to the capital city of Freetown.
Sussex Beach
A bit from Freetown, you will arrive at this untouched beach with golden sand lines. This beach area is still sparsely inhabited which makes for a perfect escape. The heavily forested rainforest of the lion mountains of Freetown gives a scenic beauty that adds to experience. In some areas, the forest hovers just over the beach, providing both shade and exotic forest fruits. Where there are little rivers that meander upwards the forest, the cascading fresh water from the falls meet the salt water from the Atlantic Ocean in an opening, which is perfect for a dive.
Kent Beach
Farther away from the capital, but along the same coastal line, Kent is one such village that offers much. Ruins dated back to the early slave era are markedly visibly in the village. The village itself is inhabited by fishermen and their families, who all commonly help you to get an insight into the life of the people in the village. The shores of the village, with massive limestone are protected from the massive waves pounding the golden sandy beaches. Kent is popularly known as the shortest transit point of transfer to the famous Banana Island.

Bunce Island
This is the location of the slave castle built in the 17th century that was used as a collection point for slaves going to Europe and the Americas. Many African Americans can trace their roots to this site.
Sherbro Island
Located on the southern coast of Sierra Leone, and has tremendous tourism and fishing potential.
Banana Island
On the top of the list of the attractions in Sierra Leone stands Banana Island with its great beauty and history. Lush forest reaches to the edge of the ocean. From a hike in the tropic forest you can jump to a scuba dive. Such diversity provides the base for an exciting holiday with ample leisure activities. The waters around Banana Island offer the chance for sport fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, free diving, scenic boat trips, excursions to more remote islands and water-sports. The well preserved forest with plenty of wildlife provides the base for longer or shorter guided treks. The historical sites on Banana Island are linked to the colonial times and the slave trade and can provide a glimpse of the past of Sierra Leone. Banana Island was one of the main slave trade centers along with Bunce Island and Plantin Island. Other tourist attractions in Sierra Leone include the Gola Forest Reserve, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Bunch Island, River N 2, Bureh Beach, Turtle Islands, Tokeh, Sussex, Lakka beach and all offer a diverse pallet for intriguing holidays.
